NEWELL, W.Va. – It’s interesting that the Fiesta Tableware Company decided to name their 2021 color Twilight, considering that people are also using this word to describe the onset of darkness and gradual decline.

If anything, the company’s brand of glazed ware is at the height of its popularity with its bright colors and collectability.

The Fiesta Tableware Company is celebrating this resilience in October, which marks not only 150 years of American craftsmanship as part of the Homer Laughlin China Company, but 85 years since the birth of its own movement.

The Fiesta Tableware Company has scheduled an event day at its Newell location on Friday, October 8th, to coincide with its biannual tent sale, said Katie Bricker, Marketing Director of The Fiesta Tableware Company.

In addition to music, visitors to their anniversary bash can enjoy varied food, games and photo opportunities throughout the day from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

A highlight of the celebrations will be ceramic historian Mark Gonzales, who has published books on goods by Homer Laughlin and Taylor Smith & Taylor. He will bring one “Fiesta Roadshow” celebration by identifying the authenticity and value of selected pieces brought by the event guests.

Gonzales, who grew up in Newell, W.Va., has completed 10 research trips to the Fiesta Tableware Company factory and helped sort and identify parts from the recently closed Hall China facility in East Liverpool.

The sale of tents, which attracts a thousand visitors every day, actually starts a day earlier. The lines meander around the property for hours and it is serious business attracting buyers from Texas and Washington.

Visitors can shop at the Fiesta Tableware Company’s location in Newell, 672 Fiesta Drive, from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm Thursday, October 7th through Saturday, October 9th, and from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Sunday, October 10th.

Gonzales understands attraction and points out the vibrancy and cheerfulness of Fiestaware as well as its willingness to adapt in order to continue to attract mass attraction. “It exudes a positive energy and there is also a sense of nostalgia. It has such a longevity. You don’t see that in other tableware series, and that’s why it’s a leader in the industry. “

Bricker said Fiestaware will have lots of freebies and surprises in store for visitors on its big day.

This includes everything from Fiesta gift certificates and memorabilia to line jump passes and tickets for a “Opportunity competition”, which includes a chance to win the 150th Anniversary Vase and a private tour will also be up for grabs.

The company is currently conducting an online auction of limited Fiesta items, such as the coveted 1997 raspberry glaze bowl that will benefit the East Liverpool and Oak Glen high school alumni clubs. With a special raspberry glaze to commemorate the 500 millionth piece of Fiesta that will be produced, the bowl is a limited edition and has fetched up to $ 5,000 in previous auctions.

The auction, which can be found at biddingforgood.com, raised $ 6,914 on Thursday at 8 p.m. with 228 total bids for items ranging from a nine-piece Chartreuse Fiesta assortment from their vault to a hand-printed painted female figure, which was labeled “priceless.”

The auction definitely shows the attraction to Fiesta that company art director Frederick Rhead launched 85 years ago in hopes of lightening the mood during the Great Depression. It quickly gained popularity and continues to be produced in 15 signature shades as well as a new custom color introduced every year – similar to Twilight in 2021.

The public is invited to come and celebrate “Notable milestone” but Bricker is reminding her to follow all COVID safety guidelines, including social distancing 6 feet from others and using masks indoors. “We are very proud of that and we would not have been able to do it without our committed employees.”
