You’ll be seeing Aura Nails everywhere this fall, so here’s some inspo – see photos

Manicures somehow always reflect the flow of energy we are in, whether it be through our choice of color, design, shape or length. And just like your aura (the energy you radiate — your mood, in other words), a new manicure trend called “aura nails” can show exactly where your head and heart are. If aura nails haven’t filled your social feeds yet, welcome. One of the biggest trends of the season, aura manicures feature gradient designs and showcase colors that reflect your mood.

First things first, “aura” is a Latin word meaning “air” or “breeze” in English, and an aura can actually be captured on camera. Have you ever had your aura photographed? Although the colors of our energy are not visible to the eye, the right type of film photography can capture their often vibrant and mixed colors, inspiring the trend’s theme.

Aside from being aesthetically pleasing through and through, these manicures have received thousands of searches on Instagram since July, according to a platform representative Curls. Since the Hashtag #auranails is currently highlighting over 11,000 photos – and on beauty tiktok videos with the hashtag #auranails have accumulated 12.5 million views and counting.

Along with a solid base coat of your choice, Aura nails are made up of gradient colors created with an airbrush or bloomed gel polish. The polishes blend together yet stand out on their own, adding a dimensional element to the nail trend.

Nail artist from London Michelle Humphrey told Curls that she always uses an airbrush as her tool of choice for flawless and smooth results. “Each nail has an airbrush style design with different color combinations. The colors blend just like a person’s aura.” It all depends on her client’s preferences and once the colors are chosen, she layers them on top of each other to create the ombré effect.

Humphrey’s design shown above uses both warm and cool tones on each nail. Yellow and apricot-orange coats of airbrushed paint bring warmth to the index and middle fingers, while light and cool shades of blue adorn a pinky, index and ring finger on both hands. The aura design turns out to be quite whimsical on oval shaped nails.
