Marie Curie Tea Party returns in SPAR stores across NI

Marie Curie’s Blooming Great Summer begins later this month with the return of the Blooming Great Tea Party to SPAR NI stores on Saturday 28 May.

PAR raised over £160,000 at its 60th birthday celebrations earlier this year, with £80,000 going to the charity which provides end-of-life care in communities across Northern Ireland.

This year’s SPAR NI Blooming Great Tea Party is kindly sponsored by Punjana, allowing stores to make their fundraisers bigger than ever.

Shoppers can grab a cup of coffee and some freshly baked goodies at select SPAR stores on May 28th. A number of stores are also raising the stakes for the day and will encourage even more visits and donations through private label product sampling, superhero visits, costume contests and yellow days where staff wear Marie Curie’s famous spring color for the day.

“We’re excited about the return of the Blooming Great Tea Party initiative for Marie Curie and especially excited to be able to make the fundraising bigger and better this post-Covid-19 year,” said Bronagh Luke, Head of Corporate Marketing at Henderson Group.

“We will also have a fantastic customer engagement at SPAR Fortfield in Carrickfergus where a local radio crew will be on hand to create a fantastic atmosphere on the day.

“As well as the in-store tea party, visitors to the busy Carrickfergus store can try to guess the number of daffodils in the jar on the 28th, while store staff join in the celebrations by doffing their uniforms for all things yellow on the day.

“SPAR Twin Spiers in West Belfast will have a variety of superheroes visiting the store – plus prizes for any shoppers who come by in their own superhero costume, alongside plenty of samples for shoppers to enjoy from our Enjoy Local, The Kitchen and The CHEF can enjoy.”

It is an anniversary year for the SPAR Classic service station in Omagh, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and will therefore be hosting a birthday party with lots of cake to support the Marie Curie Initiative, while SPAR Patrick Street in Newry will also be hosting one will be hosting a wonderful cake stand full of beautiful cakes for shoppers to enjoy in return for a donation.

Luke said: “McBride’s Lakeside Store in Fermanagh will be hosting a variety of fundraisers on the 28th including a face painting and raffle with a long list of prizes including vouchers for local restaurants and a boat trip on Lough Erne.

“Shoppers can also enjoy refreshments while showing their support to one of Fermanagh’s staff who will be shaving off his hair on the day in aid of the initiative.

“At Curry’s SPAR in Culmore, Derry, shoppers can enjoy coffee and buns and have the chance to win a prize by guessing the number of sweets in a jar. A few friendly faces will also be in the store handing out treats to children who come by. There is something for everyone in every corner of NI and everywhere in between. We are delighted that our retailers have once again embraced this fantastic initiative.”

Conor O’Kane, Senior Partnership Manager at Marie Curie said: “It’s fantastic to have the Blooming Great Tea Party back in Northern Ireland and to have become so prominent through the investment of our SPAR NI partners.

“This is the perfect way to kick off Marie Curie’s ‘Blooming Great Summer’ of fundraising over the next few months, which is all about having fun in the sunshine and raising more for the organization’s important community work.

“A donation of £20 supports an hour of nursing care, while £180 allows someone with a terminal illness to attend the day therapy unit at Marie Curie Hospice.”
